Care Labels
Help extend the life of your favourite Scotch & Soda pieces by paying some extra attention to how you wash and care for your garments.
Some of our garments have special hangtags, making it easy to recognise their special care instructions. Laundry symbols may seem like another language, but the washing instruction symbols on your garments’ care labels tell you exactly how to do the washing and drying, as well as give extra information on bleaching and ironing. Please read our care guide to what symbol means or when you don’t recognize one.
If you are still unsure or would like further information on how to care for your garment, contact our customer service team via the 'chat' button in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen or visit our Contact Us page.

Soft and breathable, cotton is one of the most popular fabrics due to its easy to care and easy to wear qualities. To maintain the highest quality of our embroidered garments, turn items inside out before washing. Machine wash, on the delicate cycle, using cool water and mild detergent. We recommend air drying or tumble dry on low.
How to care:
- Always refer to individual care label instruction before washing
- Preferably wash in cold water (30 degrees or below)
- Air dry flat and out of the direct sun
- Do not use direct chlorine bleach
Denim Care Guide
The denim treatment and colours Scotch & Soda uses to create all our beautiful washes will keep their quality best when left unwashed. Denim is designed to last but will fade over time, adding to its authentic character.
When you do have a specific stain that you want to remove, you don't need to wash the whole denim. Just wipe it off with a damp absorbent cloth and you're ready to go. However, some of our denim may require special or different care. To maintain the authentic look of raw or rinse-washed denim, there are a few simple rules you can follow. Before you wash a new pair of denim for the first time, always check the care label for special instructions.
How to care:
- Always wash your denim inside out.
- Wash with a similar colour or separately as indigo can bleed.
- Use cold water only (and preferably a delicate wash program).
- Use a gentle soap.
- Always hang your denim out to dry.

Wool Fabric Care
Please read all care instructions closely before washing our garments. You will find that most of our woollen fabrics (and other delicate fabrics) are hand wash only.
Firstly, we recommend dissolving a fine detergent in plenty of water. Allow the textiles to textiles to float in the solution and agitate carefully. Do not rub, pull and wring out. Then rinse the textiles well, press the superfluous water out carefully and pull into shape. Treat coloured and sensitive piece rapidly and do not leave lying in the wet state.
How to care:
- Always check the care label.
- Airing will keep woollens fresh!
- Fold knits and don't hang which can cause them to stretch out.
- Be careful with belts, bags straps and jewellery as they may cause little loops or holes.
- Removing perfume. smoke and food smell help prevent moths - those little flying creatures that bite their way through your woollen garments!

When caring for your linen, follow our simple steps to ensure it lasts for years to come. When washing linen, you can either hand or machine wash separately. Use lukewarm or cold water and a mild soap without bleach or brighteners. To ensure your linen lasts, try to avoid sun exposure to direct sunlight over long periods.
How to care:
- Machine wash on a low temperature with mild detergent.
- Hang or lay flat to dry as silk can easily mishap.
- Iron on the reserve.
- Keep garment in a cold, dry place.
As a naturally delicate fabric, we highly suggest that you have your garment professionally cleaned. If you choose to wash by hand, always use cool water with a mild detergent made especially for silk as the normal detergent can destroy the silk fibres.
How to care:
- Always refer to care label first.
- If machine washable, use cool water and a detergent for delicates.
- Iron inside out and on a low setting.
- Do not spray with perfume or deodorant
- Do not wrong out to dry
Always hang a leather jacket on a well-shaped or padded hanger as thin and poorly shaped hangers may stretch and warp the shoulder line. For leather pants, spot clean by wiping with a damp cloth and airing out away from direct sunlight. Damp environments can also make leather susceptible to mildew. If the leather garment does require expert cleaning we recommend using a reputable leather cleaner or a specialist dry cleaner. Do not spray perfume onto your leather as it can affect the colour and finish which can be difficult to remove, even when professionally cleaned.
How to care:
- Use spray stain protector evenly over surfaces before and regularly throughout the product life cycle
- Use a suede brush regularly in short, gentle sweeping motions to remove any dirt or built-ups.
- Consult a specialist leather cleaner
- Do not rub leather or suede when wet
